I expect you know Dan, but surrounds should be replaced in pairs (as a rule), in order to keep the voicing of the drive units similar. In any case, if one surround has failed, the other won't be far behind.

You can get the kits direct from Audio Note UK, think they are about £35.

It's very, very easy - I've done a few pairs now & was crapping myself when I did my first set. So much so that I bought a knackered pair of speakers just to try. I needn't have bothered - it really is very simple.

There are videos on youtube showing you how to do it, I did a pair of Snell J's and it is simple but a bit nerve racking;)

Hi Lads,

I have uploaded pictures of these jems i am over the moon with them they sound sublime but excel at vocal music and also they love a bit of vinyl too there easy to drive with any amplifier. Spent many hours today running them in and they get better and better :) I have a smile on my face but there new editions and safe to say there staying for the foreseeable future. The cabs are clean they have come up nice when i got them there were horrid dings and dents in them but the have come up nice they are used which i like to give that look but thats the best i am gonna get.

What i love about them is the amount of scare and accuracy they have to offer even at low volume i hear stuff i never really noticed before , saying that the rogers are going in a second system as i love them too.

Thanks

Very nice, I used to have the Snell J's, lovely old speakers.

How old are they ? Tweeters look a bit brown ,were black when new.

Hi

Right chaps i have a question for you:

Can i use bare wire at the back with the 2 rods in place for + & - if that makes sense.

Just thought i would ask i'm using banana plugs ATM.

Yes. Just make sure that the two rods connect equal polarity! They're the links to connect LF and HF sections of the crossover (you only remove them if bi-amping or bi-wiring)

Looks ok to me as long as everything is firmly connected.

I'm surprised that you're gracing us with your presence, Shane, as I believe that you consider AoS is, I quote: "a bag of shit"? ;)

If that's the case, then we can easily arrange for you not to be 'soiled' by such shit ever again.

Hi Lads,

Which one of these amps do you think is best for the AN:

I have

Nytech CTA 252 XD X2
Quad 33 / 303
Yamaha CR 820
Musical Fidelity E100

Any recommendations on others greatly appreciated :)

I've pondered on this myself... Multiple personalities perhaps ?

Try them all Dan, I would say though try and find a nice valve amp perhaps? A Puresound A10 would work well or an Audionote otto, Audio innovations series 500.

A nice EL84 valve amp or class a solid state would pair nicely.

Did you read his comments 'elsewhere' then, James? Such undeserved insults are simply not on, so unfortunately after a chat, he's decided that we'll not be seeing any more of his 'other persona' on AoS...

If it's any help I have AN-K Spe's and found they work excellent with my Mastersound DuVenti EL 34 SE amp

Indeed. Its playground behaviour & completely unnecessary.

I believe there are specialist fora on the internet for that sort of thing Chris - but AoS is not one of them! Even the 'gimp' Marco keeps in "that little cupboard", is perfectly pleasant and convivial.

Yes, enough of this gay banter.

Dan you need a really nice valve amp with your AN J's!

None I am afraid.
As an ex ANJ owner they work best with a good valve amp or Class A solid state, if you have a pre I have a very good Class A power amp for sale.

This

It is a fine sounding amp and worked well with the ANJ's but it does not have enough power to drive my latest speakers properly.
I would be looking for £500.
ps add the BTE passive pre c£90 for top class performance.
