Depends on arm and system, but the denon DL110 is a bargain and "only" £120 or so these days.

If you like the richness of "analogue," look at the Dynavector 20 series and, if your arm is up to it, one of the Denon 103's.

If you want something better balanced and more modern with decent tracking, then the AT OC9 or 33PTG should be seriously considered.

Quick question, what MC did you like back then? I only ask as Linnies are raving about EsCo re-tipped/re-built Troika's and Karma's - beefy but with "attitude."

Don't get me wrong, but I like my vinyl to sound as close to the mastering session as possible within my miniscule budget. I don't like overly warm, romantic artifice in the sound (he says, having been playing a Supex 900E the last three hours or so ;)) and like the AT, Denon 304 and Dynavector 17D series.

Are you in the UK? If not, then you may be able to get a ZYX for around the top of your budget. I loved the R100 I heard. In conjunction with the NAS Dias and 12" arm, it made you forget "LP's" and just enjoy the music...

What's your turntable and arm (and system?)

If the arm is moderate mass, the DL304 works a treat (the RB300 and relatives are great with this), the 33PTG is another true bargain and worth every penny if it means money to be spent on music or possible tweaks elsewhere. The 103r is rated by those that know them, but it needs sympathetic setup, otherwise don't bother! I don't know the Benz.

Also worth considering the London Decca Super Gold Its just over you budget but well worth the effort It sound is quite alive but will not work with all arms

I'll second the AT33PTG, which had it kept pace with inflation over the years would cost at least £600-700 today instead of £280.
Mine replaced a Lyra Argo and is similarly capable and less arm demanding IMO.

Another vote here for the AT33PTG, I can't think of a better cartridge for the money. Since you live in Asia, it may be easier for you to source. In the UK, we have to buy it from an import company.

For GBP500, I think you can get a Denon 103SA, Dynavector 17D mk3 or AT 33EV. The AT33 PTGs are getting scarce now as they are a limited edition. Last year I still saw quite a few in Hong Kong but I did not see any when I was there 2 months ago.

The Denon DL160 is superb and can give many more expensive carts a good run for their money. I have an Audiotec ATOC9 that I dont use.

mg,

What are you trying to say or ask exactly? Your first post bears no correlation that I can see to your second one

Marco.
