Well done to all concerned for getting the site up and running so speedily this morning. What appeared to be the issue and is it likely to happen again?

I've only been on these forums for a week yet that was the longest weekend I've had in a long time!

Nice to see AOS back :) I am sure a lot of hair pulling and gnashing of teeth was done over the weekend. Well done on getting it back.

The hosting company let us down.

It's not the first time is it , maybe time to move to a better quality hosting company I think.

Always goes wrong on a weekend if I remember correctly

Indeed, Mark. And strangely (for an ISP) there seems to be NO way of contacting them :steam:

Just hold off paying the next invoice for a few nanoseconds and I am sure many lines of communication will be opened up.

Indeed, Mark. Welcome back, mate, btw. Hope you had a lovely holiday :)

Yup, these issues always occur at weekends, simply because the 'after hours' service GG provide is so pish, despite us supposedly being on a preferential service!!

It's also why, as Paul said, the issue was sorted tout-suite this morning, as soon as I'd ripped into their technical manager... If these incidents had happened anytime, Mon-Fri, the forum wouldn't have gone off-line for any more than an hour, tops! However, at the weekend the staff who are on duty at GG appear to do not much more than sit on their fat arses doing, well, f*ck knows...

We suspect that the problem this time was due to excessive memory usage, which caused the server to crash, as a result of the old version of Plesk (server control panel software) being out of date. It was Plesk updates that caused us issues on VB3.8, with the error messages appearing on screen, if you guys remember that.

Anyway steps are being put into place (in terms of finding a new hosting company), to ensure that this level of downtime doesn't occur again.

Marco.
