If so, post up a few pics if you like!!!

There's a local car show every Friday evening here in town that I try to get out to as much as possible, so I have plenty of pics, and will be shooting more as time progresses.

I'll start off with a few "abstract" shots for now...

Yes, Charles. Great pictures, let's see more! :)

My wife's got a 1971 Morris Minor Traveller and loves it to bits. Got any pics of Moggies?

Truly awesome photography, Charles - and wonderful cars! Those cars have soul, unlike most of the non-descript modern crap today.

WONDERFUL pics! HAd a few Maserati 3500 2+2 in the early 70s. Mainly sold these on, also a very rare Mistrale 4.0 litre - wonderful mechanics - lousy electrics. For sheer high laundry bills a special(ish) Trident Clipper with a full Shelby tuned blueprinted engine! Almost a dragster - but Healy 3000 cornering and brakes! It once had a clutchplate sheer off and - fortunatly - it all stayed inside the bellhousing which was heavy stainless steel. That could take on late 60s big nasty jap bikes at the lights! Fun it was in central London.

When I was a teenager (early 1960s) had half share in AUY 66 which was the Morgan (4+4) team car at Le Mans, and at least once won the thermal index for its class. in the late 30s and she also won the Scottish Rally outright. Unfortunately it had an engine warp which meant that 3000 rpm took the white metal out of the bearings. Replaced the CC engine with a MGA 1600 Twin cam stage 5 ex racing engine + ZF 5 speed straight cut box. It easily out accelerated anything on the road in those days! BUT hit a bit of rough road and the fan went through the rad.

I now thank God for my 9th Audiout of 11 cars, a 2.7T quattro A6 Avant....only 65000 miles and goes like hell in total comfort, 35 mpg on long sensible journeys, 22 at worst on just local short runs.

HAD MANY OTHER SO CALLED CLASSICS, Lancia 3C Flaminia Zagato, AM DB4 & DB6 ....BUT THE REAL CLASSICS ARE ITALIAN,BEAUTIFUL, FINICKY AND VERY VERY EXPENSIVE - THESE DAYS. I never paid more than a grand for one....but that was all thirty years or more ago.

Thanks for all the great complements. I suppose they came out pretty decent. The last batch I took a couple weeks ago I think came out better, but I still have to upload them to my site. Maybe I'll get those going later tonight.:)

Ralph,

Tell me about it - another example of how computers have bastardised our lives! [Moan, whinge...] :baa:

;)

Surely, though, a computer could be programmed to design a car as stylish as those Alfas?

After all, they're merely machines and slaves to our commands...

I have a reclaimed Cat 6 write off '99 Jaguar S Type - does it qualify??:)

Marco

What's a "Cat 6 write off '99" when it's at home, Dave? :)

Hi Marco,
According to my son, who is 'into' motors in a big way, a Cat 6 write off is a car (that has been damaged) that the insurance company have decided would be cheaper to write off than repair, even though repair is possible. In my case the car had been vandalised by having a burning rag tossed into the front passenger footwell after having that window smashed. The main wiring loom is centred in that area and the inside of the car looked like the bottom of a coal pit on a dark night, not to mention what the flames had done.
The '99 bit refers to it's year of registration.
You help me with audiophile matters and I'll try to help you with motor matters !!:lolsign:

LOL - interesting, Dave. First time I've heard of that term :)

Think I've heard of that before - cars used to be "written off" if the cost of the repair was greater than the value of the car. Cat 6 is where that's not the case, but they write it off anyway because that's what we do these days, throw it away, buy a new one. <mild rant over>

There are various category's of 'right off', Marco. Ranging from damaged/repairable to completely f*cked!

Just found this...

The ABI Categories of 'Write-Off'
Category A: Scrap only - this vehicle should have been crushed. It should never reappear on the road and there are no economically salvageable parts. It is of value only for scrap metal - e.g. a totally burnt-out vehicle.
Category B: The bodyshell should have been crushed. The vehicle should never reappear on the road, but it can be broken for spare parts plus any residual scrap metal.
Category C: Vehicle extensively damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. The vehicle should have an independent inspection before being allowed back onto the road.
Category D: Vehicle damaged and insurer has decided not to repair.
Category F: Vehicle damaged by fire and insurer has decided not to repair

Hi All,
Mike, I stand corrected !! :)
I may have had another 'Senior Moment' when referring to Cat 6 - based on your posting I guess mine would better be described as Cat F. Hope I haven't caused too much confusion - nothing worse than an 'expert' talking b---s !!

Hi All,
nothing worse than an 'expert' talking b---s !!

If your censored word refers to the male gonads, then I certainly have been guilty of this at times. If it refers to faeces taurii, then unless you regard this as semantic nit picking, I would say it is much more serious failing, as it suggests deliberate deceit. (sadly, I don't like Guinness, so I'll pretend it's a decent pint of Bass!)

Hi Barry,
Sorry if I am mis-interpreting your posting but, just in case there IS any confusion, my reference to "an expert talking b---s" was NOT a refrence to you but to ME. I spoke with the authority of an expert, (albeit my son), about Cat 6 Write Offs when I should have said Cat F.
For further information, it was a reference to male gonads and NO thoughts of deliberate deceipt (mine or yours) were in my mind at the time. If you can get the admin team to make available a pint of Bass smiley I'll use this in future .
All is cool at this end - hope the same now applies at your end.
Cheers (Bass),
Dave.
