Album Club - Week 98: 18.06.2013: David Bowie - Hunky Dory (1971)
The recent publicity over David Bowie's comeback after a decade made me think of which of his records is actually his best. I think this one will appeal to a wider audience than much of his output. IMO better than his breakthrough album of the following year, The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust....' , I give you Hunky Dory.

This didn't really gain wide attention until after Ziggy Stardust was a hit and came to my notice through the single 'Life on Mars'. Probably the best single Bowie has released. The album contains several well known tracks including 'Oh You Pretty Things' and 'Changes'. Best heard on vinyl - orange label RCA's are widely available but the earliest pressings are getting expensive. The best sounding version I have heard (and own) is the 90's EMI 100 180g reissue. The 1999 remixes which current CDs use are not recommended and rather revise the superb original work by Ken Scott too much.
