Michael McGoldrick may well be a new name to most of you. He is a Mancunian of Irish descent who plays Irish flute, tin whistle, low whistle and Uillean pipes. 'Fused' was his first solo album and although based firmly on traditional Irish music, transcends this crossing over into several other genrés. McGoldrick has been referred to as the "Talvin Singh of Irish music" - take a listen and see if you agree.

Giving this a try now, Keith - apologies that this week's choice hasn't had much attention - the thread has probably been a bit lost with all the upgrade and downtime discussions. :(

Never heard of him before, but I can see even after the first three tracks why the tag "the Talvin Singh of Irish music" may be appropriate - a nice chilled-out summery vibe to it, more "At the River" than "Riverdance". ;)

I like this type of music but not all at once, the odd track now and then is great, so I found the whole album a bit samey I'm sure more listening would reveal that its not.
Well recorded and crafted 7/10.

Sorry chaps and Alex is right - it all got lost in the migration fun. Going to have a listen to it now (never heard of him).

Think I'm going to agree with Bazzer on this one - 7/10. Not one I'll be buying unless I stumble upon it cheap, but I'll add a few tracks to some Spotify playlists, and it's great to have something different on Album Club again. :)

I'll give it a go after Black Sabbath 4, but despite being of Irish decent, Irish folk music and that darned tin whistle kind of leaves me a little cold, which could account for my disappointment with Mark Knopfler recently, as there was too much twaddle going on with folk music and a smattering of folk instruments.

I'll give it a 'blank page' listen though when I start it, as I have been surprised in the past and no doubt will continue to be in the future?

EDIT:
Just played it and I really gave it my best shot Keith, but I couldn't get beyond Teehan's - sorry, but its dreadful to my ears I have a real blind spot for this stuff . . . can I have that stale Guinness now please ;)
1/10

No worries Tim - I knew this wasn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for giving it a go.

Sorry Keith I am with Tim on this
I can enjoy Celtic/ Irish folk music but has to have a bit more passion for me

Looks like I'm with the majority on this one. 6/10 from me. It's just a little bit too clichéd for my tastes. Sorry

Sorry, I tried too but it's not doing anything for me. 3/10 because there is far worse music around.

I played this the other night - it's OK I suppose, but it lacks the fire and vibrancy that I expect to hear in Irish music. I suppose this sort of music is always far better when performed live. Having spent a fair few nights in pubs, in and around West Cork - places where any musician can drink for free if they feel like playing, I just feel that this doesn't grab my attention in the same way. I'd agree with the other assertions that it's a little bit samey across the whole album.
Sorry, but just a 2 from me.

I've given it a go but not really my type of thing I'm afraid :(
