Hi All

I decided to have a tweak as I have always auditioned new possible setups on acrylic shelves.

No chance of buying one so I'm trying a combo of very open MDF shelf with acrylic supports.

These have only just gone in so its early days, first impression is the bass has reduced with slightly more clarity.

Cheers Phil

Good idea. I like your thinking, especially the way you've reduced the surface area of the shelf with the hole. I wonder how much a sheet of acrylic 10mm thick would cost that you could cut to shape.... The smaller the overall surface area of the shelf the better the musical reproduction.

The construction of the stand lends its self to Steve's idea. You could do one shelf like Steve suggests the other leave as is now, and very quickly compare the sound, to see which is better. Nice work by the way, it looks well.

I did a simular thing years ago with my Turntable wall shelf, i found it an ideal idea due to the fact that i could set up the Thorens suspension no probs gaining total easy acess to the underside..

The best sounding wall shelf btw was an idea i came up with where i bought the Rega wall support, cut off the cups, drilled & tapped for spikes instead, cleaned up re sprayed, sounded great with my old PT 'LPT'..
