Hi

My turn has come so if you would care to join me in playing - Yes - Close To The Edge. It is one on the greatest prog albums from the era. Why I like the album well I have always been a fan prog and I picked up an original at a car boot for £1 and its mint the early Atlantic pressing. The album is pure genius have your vote on what you think I will be playing it tommorow morning if you care to join. The recording is fantastic needs a vintage system sounds just great.

It's a very good album - I do actually have 3 vinyl copies. But can we resume the usual 1 to 10 voting system now the detour into Classical music has ended.

I dont rate this album and I have the early pressing. Yes released far better albums no more than a 4/10 for me, its quite boring. :(

I cannot really get into this album; far to self pretentious for me. I admire the musicianship, but rarely feel inspired to listen to it I give it a 4 out of 10

Time for a new keyboard Dan...or a new 'S' key anyway...

Excellently pretentious album for me...goes with the territory I suppose ;)

Hmmm....interesting choice of scoring there - not much opportunity for someone to express their opinion if it's in the middle ground. It'll be tricky to use this in any future analysis of scores.

The bane of any business intelligence solution, inconsistent granularity of your FACT data....;)

It's also out of order, making it even trickier :(

I am perhaps rather different to most in really liking the entire album.
Yes, I know it's pretentious, has weird non sensical words, but so what.
Musically it is great. timing and rhythm changes that challenge the mind, and those playing.
Early versions, and indeed most if not all of the cd versions suffer badly in mastering and recording, especially the organ solo in 'White Lace'.
However, if you do like the album, and have a TT then the new 2013 release is actually really rather good.
Seen this performed live so many times either in it's entirety or great chunks that I forget just how many times, but never fails to delight.
Is it an all time classic? - Undoubtedly for me, high scoring, not exactly as it did suffer with recording issues.. 7.5/10.
Great memories of 5th & 6th form common room discussions :)

The new Rhino vinyl is indeed the best I've heard this. Anyway it deserves 7/10 for musical content. Not nearly as good as 'The Yes Album'. Can someone revamp the scoring system to the normal format please.

Three weeks ago we had the Yes album which I gave 10/10 commenting that it just nudged CTTE as my favorite Yes album so this gets a 9/10 or Excellent.
CTTE was the first Yes record I bought, And You and I is without thinking to hard my favorite Yes track.

I laughed and laughed, now I am a little horse... :D

The only YES album I can tolerate... No scrub that, the only YES track I can tolerate is Homeworld, which is quite good. I much prefer Jon's work with Vangelis.

I haven't played this in a while, but it's one of the few Yes albums I can get on with nowadays, which is why I still have a copy, a nice early vinyl pressing which I actually bought for a present for my sister a very long time ago - she didn't like it much (despite owning other Yes albums), so I took it back!

Listening this time around I can hear how it might have been pretty influential as I keep hearing parts that sound like a lot of other bands- something I never really noticed before. Kansas ought to be ashamed of themselves though!

7/10 from me, I should think.

It's a great album, Chris. However, perhaps you need to take another listen to Fragile and Relayer, both up there in my list of all-time great albums?

Fragile & Relayer are two that I can still listen to!
