I must order that Alison Balsom CD - she was utterly mesmerising in concert earlier this year. I also have the new Christina Pluhar (Los Pajaros Perdidos) which is excellent.

Any other nominations for recording of the year?

Rachel Podger's rendition of La Cetra arrived here yesterday and I can thoroughly recommend it. There are some really good Vivaldi recordings around these days, and this is one of them.

I quite like the look of the disc by New York Polyphony; the few extracts I've listened to online sound very promising.

Here's one from left field:

Marcel Peres and the Ensemble Organum have provided us with a whole series of wonderful recordings of medieval music (and sometimes later). This is a requiem mass from the end of the middle ages, from the fifteenth century. If deep basses and the "ison" technique are your cup of tea, take a listen to the opening of the kyrie!

Thanks, Simon. I'll look it up.
