Hi,

I have been using a 7510 Mod 21 version as a preamp via the variable output and it is very good. I use a SB3 into it via a coaxil cable and an Avondale 260 power amp. After extended listening sessions I really could not tell the difference with and without a dedecated preamp so I sold the preamp.

Regards

Chris

I have the TC-7520 wired in as a preamp to my power amp, and as a DAC to my integrated amp. Once I can find the screws for the wooden panels on my Pioneer C73 preamp, that's going in the classifieds.

I'm driving my NAD C272 with the 7520 and am very happy with the sound. I'm using 20' ICs, letting me have the 7520, transport and computer feed next to me. It's fun to grab a pile of CDs (haven't ripped many yet) and flip them in and out as whims drive my listening.

The only inconvenience (Stan?) is that the 7510 would cut out the signal to the power amp when I inserted headphones, but my 7520 makes me walk across the room to turn the power amp off.

I use a 7510 6:4 as a digital pre-amp. It drives an upgraded Quad 405-2 from the variable output. I take digital output by RCA from a Squeezebox 3, and by optical link from a Virgin Cable TV box. That is a cleaner sound than having a Quad 77 preamp in circuit, and using the Beresford fixed out.

If I did not need to switch to TV box, which has no volume control of it's own, I would drive the Quad power amp directly from the fixed output of the 7510. The Quad sensitivity was adjusted on upgrading so at reasonable listening volumes I never need more than 20% digital attenuation. To put it another way, I use the digital volume control in the Squeezebox with a setting no lower that 80% - more typically 90%. This last option give the shortest analogue signal path, and the clearest sound, but the improvement over the 7510's variable out is tiny.

How it would turn out with a 7520 I cannot say.
