This sort of stupid brain dead drivel is only funny if you have an IQ three pionts lower than a poodle and even then, only after the age of 8.

There is simply no need to be offensive to 50% of the population.

It would be interesting if The Grand Wazoo could advise us of his IQ quotient.

I suspect it is in single figures.

But who is it insulting Mick? ;)

Being more than a bit Aspergic, I find the top box with it's off or on switch a bit too close to home. I could do with some adjustment controls myself and have had to learn to be flexible the hard way (most of "you" do these things by instinct which "we" don't have).

Well I think it's funny and I passed the Mensa entrance exam(Not that that means much).Offensive to which half of the population exactly?? It could be taken either way if you are as narrow-minded as some people seem to be.

Go on then Mick,
Who does it offend and why?
Or is it as offensive to both men and women
FYI my wife is an 'equalities and diversity officer' and sees no reason why it would cause offence to either sex
However, Wazzers 'Gods own electronics' title puts him on hallowed ground as it were.

If IQ's are to be questioned, it must be that of one who sees this as insulting to females.
It is quite clearly, as Neil points out, men who should be worried for what this might say about them.

For those who do not understand this simple concept I will explain: The title of the post was 'God's Own Electronics'.

That would imply, would it not, that women are finely tuned, sophisticated beings who have many degrees of subtlety.

While men have two settings: On or Off.

Its called Triggers. Some people react badly to certain triggers irrationally because they wrongly associate certain words with something that they think must be insulting and lash out without considering what was actually communicated.

Its a complete nightmare as the people who do that often never listen or read anything properly and hardly ever think about anything comunicated to them.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but I have had experience of this in the past and it wasn't good.:steam:

The Grand Wazoo
06-03-2009, 21:42
Yes, & it's a shame that they almost never admit they're wrong when it's politely pointed out to them by several people, or apologise for the insults they so freely use.

Still, what do I know with my IQ of below 10?

Funny how they don't consider that sort of language to be offensive to people who are unfortunate enough to have a low IQ.

You guys wrote this, not me…………

I'll make mine short and sweet, the three categories of Ethos are as follows:

Arete; Virtuosity and goodness.

Eunoia; Goodwill to those you address.

Phronesis; Using wisdom and knowledge in a practical way.

I'll be using the above as guidelines for how I use this forum, I hope you'll agree.

Things we really like here:

Friendly people.

Differences of opinion discussed sensibly.

Pictures and lots of them!

Humorous banter.

Liberal use of the smilies.

Things we don't like here:

Defamatory comments about any manufacturers or dealers.

Defamatory comments about any other member of this forum or any other hi-fi forum.

'Willy waving' (i.e. boasting about one's system in a monetary value sense).

Swearing excessively. The occasional bit may slip thorough, but nobody wants to hear 'f this' and 'f that' all day long.

Please don't lecture me on how ill feeling is promulgated by misunderstandings and their subsequent escalation (sorry, can you follow this argument so far, or are these 'IQ of below 10' words a bit hard for you to understand?). I have argued and made exactly that point with Marco here before, also about a joke. The difference in this case is that you are simply wrong about the premise of the original post.

I don't care that you don't understand the joke. I can't be responsible for the actions of someone who misunderstands my intent and I will never change my behaviour (deeds or words) in case someone is offended by what I never said in the first place. You see, this is because I also have principles.

What I do care about is that you resort to personal insult, and in doing so you exhibit exactly the discrimination that you are misguidedly criticising me for - except you seem to really mean it.

Apologise for your personal insults.

I think the images of man/woman depicted by the simplistic and complex amplifiers are designed to make us reflect on notions of sex and gender stereotyping. The ensuing discussion is a good thing but the PC whistle-blowing is not. It is the stuff of Pinkos, Mick.

This is a work-safe forum and for that we do not need to be suffocatingly PC. I'm sure that the vast majority of workplaces are not run by the PC gestapo, therefore freedom of thought and expression still reign supreme.

You could see it this way ' man can think of one thing at a time women can multi task !

Hi Guys

I think that one is another myth. I must admit to being concerned and frustrated by modern societies attempts to pigeon hole Men and Women. Are we equal, in importance yes...in abilities ? No, how can we be. We are all different, with varying degrees of strength, mental ability, skills etc. To my mind it is daft to get caught up in what is ultimately an exercise of putting people into boxes. We are all individuals and no assumptions should be made about Men or Women their abilities and characters. Treat each other as we find each other, and enjoy the journey of discovery. I think we, both men and women are the victims of attempts at social engineering and the wiles of the marketing men and media. The agendas behind this I think are evident...is this kind of division good for the community as a whole...I would say NO.

On that last bit....I tend to agree with Chris. Just because someone is brusque and larger than life and deals with everyone the same...if they are rude and insulting and break the AUP then I don't think any excuse should be made for them. "Sorry thats the way they are" can't be used as a defence or a justification. I am not having a go at anyone in saying that...its just that the rules need to apply to all, and exceptions can't be made because of a members character. When on the net, we all need to be careful and thoughtful in what we post and if we have to fight with our natural tendencies to be........... fill in the blank, then thats what we have/must do.

Mr DSDL sir, I can't even MONO task these days - my mind is going, I can feel it, I can feel it, I'm afraid, Stop Dave...........................

We're all different. Despite me being a long time member of the IAM, my wife is capable of better and more consistent driving than me, and when she was on form she didn't hang about either and could easily reverse into a tight parking space too!!!!!!! There's not a lot she can't do, self confidence being the killer (same for me I've found). I now like working with kids, yet twenty years ago I regarded youngsters as little disobediant brats.....

Takes all sorts in this world of ours I reckon!

Spectral Morn
07-03-2009, 11:42
Yes time is a factor in all this as well..we all, men and Women, find ourselves as a victim of aging. You are right about confidence...lack of such...self doubt can and does shackle many of us to mediocrity. Lack of belief in ones abilities (and this should never be arrogant)weakens us all.

Something else that was mentioned earlier....I for one think that things being to PC, can very much render many discussions to two dimensional ones. However what is said should be measured.

As I said before:

As it was not intended as a slight upon the female sex, but more towards men (of whom I am one) and, coupled with comments by other posters reporting that several women have seen this & none have been offended, I fail to see how contrition is an appropriate response for me. If you feel otherwise, then please explain. Which women exactly are you defending?

Were you aware that the vast majority of Irish jokes originate in Ireland? Both of my parents are Irish citizens, but I (& they) have never been offended by Irish jokes - and before you question my parents intellect, my mother is a retired doctor and my father is a world authority on hydro electric turbines.

So you are offended at the practice of stereotyping.

Quite. Mick you are demonstrating a rather superficial understanding of sex and gender issues. The point about the amps is that the roles can be reversed as well as questioned. This is an astonishing comment to make!
All it would take is to change the word "fool" for "women" to see the double standards being expressed here.
According to you it is acceptable to pillory people of limited or lower intelligence (than who? You?) but to make anything approaching a vaguely sexist joke is the end of the world.
So far, you have directly or indirectly insulted poodles, people of low or limited intelligence, and by implication any member of this forum who found the original post amusing. Believe me, Irish people get fed up with Irish jokes and women get fed up with sexist drivel, no matter how mild.

Mick

So, are you defending women and Irish people from being bored, or being offended?

But Mick, this is not sexist drivel as everyone else on this thread has tried to explain to you. Perhaps if our women folk explained it to you instead, you might begin to understand.

Yup... Mick, I've been quite tolerant but I think you're going overboard with this one. Time to change the record now, old chap!

Marco.

Marco

To be fair, I have only been responding to posts or questions from other people.

I think everyone knows each other position and I agree it is time to call it quits.
