Sony DasR1 Dac(same as Marco's) for sale.

This has been heavily modded by Mark at Audiocom.

Some say the best ever dac made it really is a stunner enabling my Helios media player to compete and better some very high end cd players.

£1500ono.

Hi Ian,

What are you replacing it with, a Audio-com tweaked transporter?

I have an idea...

I have an idea...

Has this idea got anything to do with that hypothesis of yours?

Hi Ian,

Hi Tony,

No, one of Duncan (Tubehunter's) valve output DACs (the brass one shown on the thread in the D.I.Y room) to use with his new PS3 :)

It's phenomenally good!

Marco.

I have a similar one in acrylic only without the active output stage.

Marco

So what was your idea? :)

hi ian i have the r1 das-r1 if you dont mind do the mods make a good improvement to the dac and what sort of costs ,i dont make much use of my player,i had the valve engineer paul hynes look at it a few years ago but said that there were many improvements needed -he did not rate it ,i would be interested if you found changes

Ian Walker

I bought mine already modded so couldnt comment on the standard dac,i think Marco bought his as standard though so he would be the one to ask.

Regulation and I/V stage design is just a couple of the things which tended to let a lot of the TDA1541 based dacs down

If Sony used classic op-amp I/V implementation and this was upgraded to something say without fb, regulation upgraded to lower noise and those tired old capacitors replaced it probably would improve performance no end

we are very lucky here in n. ireland to have a very fine hifi engineer i did get the circuit diagrams for the transport and the dac as my transport had to be fixed by him after a unsuccesful modification ,but any advice on the player is great im not in any rush and i can let him read all the recomendations and thank you very much

Francis means Rodney Hanna. I have heard Francis Dac and it was quite good. Audio Com who do mods for these things are the best in the UK at it and would do a great job on it. I didn't know you had the transport fixed Francis, maybe I could get a listen to both sometime. Nice to see you back on line again.
