Guys,

Just to let you know that we've opened up a new sub-forum in Analogue Art (see here: http://theartofsound.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=46), which will be populated later with all the Techy chat, to date, which has been posted in the Analogue Art section, since the forum started.

This will mean that those who are looking for specific info on modding the Techy, or anything else relating to that subject, will be able to find it rather more easily, and also those who have no interest whatsoever in that subject can avoid it like the plague... Listen up, Andre! :eyebrows: ;)

Please bear with us for a short while, as there will be some disruption in the Analogue Art section of the forum, until the relevant threads are moved into the new Technics T/T sub-forum.

We're also planning to do the same in Digital Expressions, with all chat relating to the Beresford DAC, also having a separate sub-forum for computer audio related discussions.

Therefore, we need some relevant names to call the respective areas (polite suggestions only!) and we'd like you to choose, so let's hear your suggestions, what you think of our ideas for the new sub-forums and any other constructive suggestions you would like to make!

Marco.

An excellent idea Marco, I'm sure André will be pleased ;)

Re the computer audio section, well it could simply be that - Computer Audio, or File Based Audio which I think is more pertinent and would be my choice, but novices may not connect with that name so readily as Computer Audio, which kind of 'does what it says on the tin'.

Computer Audiophile already exists as a website and forum.

Overall though, a very sensible idea.

Nice idea. What about Techie Tampering, or is that too paedophilic?

Here's a selection from me...

Turbo-Technics
Techniquest
Techypedia (or Techiepedia)
Rave To Nirvana (The Technics Modding Forum)
Revolution 12XX or perhaps, Evolution 12XX (The Technics Modding Forum)
Pitch Perfect (The Technics Modding Forum)
Technicraft (The Technics Modding Forum)

I'm liking "Techiepedia" best so far :)

Well, 112 threads have been moved into the Techy-only section today, so we're getting there!

How does everyone think it's looking? It's interesting looking through the main body of Analogue Art now (on the most recent postings) and seeing no Techy threads  :eyebrows:

It looks great Marco. Not quite what I had in mind all those months ago when I suggested creating separate sections for each of the TT drive types, however this solution does address the misgivings some had about my original idea. It allows the rest of 'Analogue Art' to 'breath'... ;)

We've gone for 'The Techiepedia', for the moment, unless someone can come up with an even better suggestion. If that's the case, it'll be immediately implemented, so keep your suggestions coming, folks!

I like that - not that it will affect me.

Shouldn't it be Techipedia though, without the e?

Marco
23-07-2012, 10:36
No, that would make it appear as relating to something 'Technical', rather than to 'Techie', which is a common affectionate name for the SL-1200/1210 (along with 'Techy'), and I prefer 'Techiepedia' to 'Techypedia' :)

The new sub-section frees up the main section of Analogue Art somewhat, doesn't it? There are another 40-odd pages of threads to sort out, and then the task will be done. Working through the threads, I'm actually rather pleasantly surprised just how much other T/T chat there is on a forum, which is purported to be the sole domain of Techie 'fanboys'! ;)

I do like vinyl engines Technics sub heading "Turning Japanese". Always makes me laugh.

Ah yes, I can see that, you wouldn't want the forum to be accidentally associated with anything technical.....;)

However, if it were to be about technical questions, as opposed to Technics, I would say it should be Techpedia, and not Techipedia...;) (didn't sleep much last night)

Lol... No, that's what the DIY room is for ;)

You know how people refer to the SL-1200/1210 as 'The Techy', or 'The Techie'? Well, "Techiepedia" is a play on the latter. "Techpedia", therefore, wouldn't work.

I've warned you before about cutting back on watching Playboy TV... You'll wear it out, you know! :eyebrows:

ahem.............there's the small matter of the spelling of '...edia'. It should be '...ædia', should it not?

synsei

I considered this when I thought it up Chris and eventually settled on the spelling used in Wikipedia as these days most of us are used to it ;)

Those simplifications are always because the Americans can't spell.

Anyone for a donut

The Americans are only borrowing our language for a while until they all start speaking Spanish. In the meantime we should respect it & all of its quirks!

Well, I've moved all the 'Techie' threads from Analogue Art into 'Techiepedia'... Bloody nightmare, but worth it! :)

What I found interesting was that out of 1632 threads in Analogue Art, only 328 of them were about the Techy, so there's certainly plenty of non-Techie T/T chat here.... I'll be moving the Techie-related threads from the DIY room and Strokes of Genius, to 'Techiepedia', tomorrow.

For those of you interested in the Techy, check out some of the Stickied threads on the first page, as there are some interesting old discussions in there, which show just how much things can change in a few years! ;)
