CD problem

Is there an easy way to clean a CD player? My Quad 66 is beginning to skip occasionally but I have heard various anathemas thrown at CD cleaning discs; what is the truth in this?

It was refurbished by Quad some three or four years ago but is little used as I usually use vinyl.

Any serious help gratefully received.

(I am not [repeat NOT] going to take it to bits myself: not competent!].

I would suggest a proprietary CD lens cleaner of the type you can buy from most good hi-fi shops. I would suggest that dust has settled on the lens and that a simple clean would resolve matters.
