Hope this helps.

I think the Sony Museum in Tokyo still has some,or where they looking for some?
I would start by digging up time capsules buried on or before 1980.

An old thread I realise...

Aren't Betacam tapes, the industry standard, the same physical tapes as Betamax? Surely there must be loads around. only the encoding method and tape speed different?

A 30 min Betacam tape should be the equivalent of about a 4hr Betamax tape (due to the higher speed of Betacam) and can be had for €1 on german ebay:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/281037305013 . Perhaps look instead for Sony BCT-10 tapes.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-BCT-10G-Betacam-Tapes-Brand-New-Box-of-10-Tapes-/200900150252

New box of 10 SONY BCT-10G tapes for £5 with more available.. That's about 75 min Betamax equivalent.

Assure yourself that Betacam and Betamax tapes are indeed the exact same thing physically beforehand. A bit of searching around has assured me that they are the very same tapes up to a certain duration.
