Been fancying one for a while and found a nice one on ebay, which I thought I'd watch and maybe have a last minute 'punt' on.

In the end I didn't bother. Can you guess why?

I think you might need to find a broken one and put the extra work in!

Well if that's the money good ones fetch these days then I guess good luck to those selling them...

You very rarely get something for nothing in this life :)

How much would a modified 1210 like mine cost? ;) I think that a Garrard with a suitable arm and plinth would be in the same ball-park.

Marco.

I have a Slatedeck serviced/modified 401 (2007) in a gorgeous cherry plinth made by Martin Bastin, with Notts Analogue space arm, that might entertain serious offers ...

I love the 401, but having used two in past decades (admittedly in not so hot plinths) I'm not sure. I think I'd rather have one of the "bling" black/gold SL1210's if I could get one and then breathe heavily on it. No rumble, next to no W&F and reliability for decades of domestic use as long as the bearing is kept lubed...

Having owned Garrards, Duals, Lenco's but not the TD124, it's the latter that would interest me. However, these are now going for outlandish money. Thirty years ago, I could have bought a mint 124 with SME for £50 in a passable plinth. I was so into my LP12 I passed on it (stupid idiot I was.........).

Similar price Ali, and thats an early grease bearing 301 which usually fetch high prices. Not seen one go quite that high for a while though.

That one in the auction you linked to is 'about there' for the ones I've seen. I think this ones got some serious collectors bidding, it's gonna be an eye opener!

Have you seen this? Not for a 301 or 401, but for a plinth the size of a bog seat. In slate. 45kg of slate...

John

That is a lot of money just for the slate which is used, not sure if he get it

The prices on UK Ebay for a 401 are incredible high now (who spoke about worldwide crisis?). On german and italian sites you can still find a 401 for about 400 Euro in good working conditions .... certainly a good plinth will cost more

Beechwoods
23-12-2008, 20:17
A year ago that would have been really good value. Still better than UK prices now, but back then... :wow:

Mike
24-12-2008, 11:20
Well I was quite a bit out.

Sold for £1,207.91 which is still a pretty impressive price if you ask me!
