Thanks for the interest so far, foks. Absolutely fab.

Not sure about postage costs til I take the packets to the PO, so just PM me your addresses (I know Marco's already - unless he's moved!), I'll post them to you and then let you know how much you owe. That OK? :)

If you have special postage needs (e.g. Special Delivery) let me know, otherwise I'll just use the cheapest available service.

It may take me a few days to source packing material, so expect the LPs to be posted early-ish next week! :)

Once again, thanks on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

But first a plug for this, that didn't sell in the last batch. This is a seriously good performance by one of the all time great pianists of the ol' 20thC! ...

Schumann Piano Concerto & Franck Symphonic Variations. Ivan Moravec / Czech PO / Vaclav Neumann. N Mint

And now for some newbies ...

Brahms piano concertos 1 & 2 - Gilels / Berlin PO / Jochum. DG Privilege 2 LPs. Excellent/VG - a few ticks, could do with a clean I think. But legendary performances, as classical buffs will know.

Chopin piano sonatas 2 & 3 (inc. the famous 'funeral march' which everyone knows!) Murray Perahia / CBS LP. N Mint but a strangely broad piano image, with a left bias. Great performances.

SOLD Samual Barber - Piano sonata and other piano music. Ruth Laredo. Nonesuch LP. N Mint. Interesting and somewhat challenging music, especially the sonata.

Mozart piano concertos 20 & 21. Murray Perahia, ECO. CBS LP. N Mint.

SOLD "Fritz Wunderlich" - 5 LP DG box set of songs and opera arias. N Mint - this is in superb condition! Surely one of the greatest tenors of all time. Many mono recordings, but this is all about a solo voice, so who cares!

Haydn - symphonies 92 & 95. Klemperer / New Philharmonia. EMI LP. N Mint

SOLD Vaughan Williams 2nd symphony and Greensleeves suite - Barbirolli / Halle. EMI Eminence LP. N Mint. (Reserved for Bob in his morris minor!)

SOLD Beethoven 6th symphony (Pastoral) - Karajan, Berlin Phil 1977. DG LP. N Mint

SOLD Faure Requiem - Ledger / Auger / Luxon. ECO, Choir of Kings College Cambridge. EMI LP. N Mint

And finally a plug for an opera boxset that has appeared here before ...

Janacek - Kata Kabanova - Dvorsky, Soderstrom. Decca 2 LPs. Challenging music, the Vienna Phil conducted by Charles Mackerras, the greatest Janacek authority of them all, with a superbly immediate Decca recording. With libretto booklet in English & Czech. N Mint.

£2 per LP plus actual postage.

Just a quick vote of thanks for Jerry (jandl100) - my LP arrived today in pristine condition, well packed etc.
I notice that Jerry posted a short while ago about his avatar, the duck. Can I take this opportunity to respectfully suggest that he changes it to this much more appropriate one. It's a bit of an inside joke but I'm sure Jerry and a few friends will get it.

Mine just turned up too, thanks Jerry. :D

As for ducks, I like mine crispy and aromatic. Or as my 8-yr old daughter likes to say, "Crispy and Asthmatic" (Which of course might be nearer the truth if you saw the state of our local takeaway . . :eyebrows:).

Edit - love the Barber Piano Sonata and other pieces . . .

Jerry, when's your next charity haul gonna be? I'm wanting to add more (quality music) to my collection of classical music, and it's been ages since your last one....

I've got a nice big space ready for all that Shossy you're gunna be sending me! :D

Marco.

Well, well - quelle surprise!

Went in to the charity shop yesterday to do my regular Friday afternoon stint ... BINGO! A new donation of loads of LPs, including some very nice classicals.

RACHMANINOV - played by the composer his very self - Piano Concerto #1, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Both with the Philadelphia orch, the pC condcuetd by Ormandy (rec. 1939/40) and the Rhapsody conducted by Stokowski (rec. 1934). Mono, obviously, but very nice recording with amazing depth to the mono image. Very clean, undistorted. Fairly high background noise, in keeping with the age of teh recording. I'd rate it Ex+ as an LP.
HMV CSLP 509

Evelyn Rothwell (aka Lady Barbirolli) plays oboe accompanied by her hubby, "Glorious John" Barbirolli with his Halle Orch. - oboe concertos by Haydn, Corelli, Pergolesi. Mono again. LP is Ex.
PYE CCL 30127

Franck Symphonic Variations for piano & orchestra, and Rimsky-Korsakov Piano Concerto The great Paul Badura Skoda is the pianist, with Artur Rodzinski conducting the Philharmonic Symphony Orch of London. Mono again, but very very nice recording and the LP is in Ex/NM condition.
NIXA / Westminster WLP 20026

SCHUBERT Die Schone Mullerin song cycle. Aksel Schiotz sings accomapnied by the late but very great Gerald Moore on the piano. Recorded in 1945 this is not a stereo audiophile extravaganza! But for the True Collector this is a bit of a gem. NM is the best description of the condition.
ODEON MOAK 1. Made in Denmark.

SOLDMENDELSSOHN the 2 Piano Concertos. Peter Katin plays with the LSO / Anthony Collins. Another lovely mono original. Ex.
Decca LXT 5201

SOLDDELIUS Brigg Fair, First Cuckoo, Walk to Paradise Garden, Song of Summer. Anthony Collins conducts the LSO. Lovely interpretations. Ex.
Decca LXT 2788

The above 6 LPs here ....

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii114/jandl100/DSCF7619.jpg

also ...

SOLDJacqueline du Pre in a 3 LP box set of cello concertos by Schumann (Barenboim conducting), Dvorak (Barenboim), 2 by Haydn (with Barbirolli & Barenboim conducting) and Elgar (the legendary recording with Barbirolli). Not sure about the condition here, a RCM would be good and may sort them out nicely. Not bad but VG+, before a go with a RCM, I think.
EMI SLS 895

£2 per LP plus actual postage. All nett money goes to the Cancer Research UK charity. :)

More to be listed this weekend, I hope. ;)

Ha, yeah, I know, Marco ... it's a bit of a pain that's all. Just me being lazy. :)

OK ... I'll see what I can do from now on!

... and MORE !!! ...

Hmm ... not sure what to make of this one. I've never seen it before, and I've been classical LP hunting for more years than I care to remember! :wheniwasaboy:
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #1 and Franck Symphonic Variations. John Ogdon, John Barbirolli and the Philharmonia on HMV ASD 542. Stereo from 1963.
It could defo do with a RCM.
£5 ... or is that cheeky? Open to offer!

And, ah, another interesting LP. Mono. But the cover makes great play of the sound quality ... "startlingly realistic - never before achieved by recorded sound". It even has an oscilloscope display of a top C played on a concert grand on the front cover! The sound Quality is indeed quite startling - a real percussive thwack to it!
Anyways, it strikes me as a bit of a collector's item ... and is priced accordingly! :eyebrows:

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii114/jandl100/DSCF7956.jpg

Sheffield Labs Prokofiev LP. £15.

The EMI Andre Previn Tchaikovsky (1812 etc) is also collectible - £5

ASV Vivaldi bassoon concertos - £3

The EMI Prokofiev Romeo & Juliet, Verdi Rigolletto and EMI Mahler 9th symphomy are doubles - so £3 each

Sorry Marco, no Shosty this time. :(

CONDITION - all seem to be well taken care of, but are NOT Mint. I've sampled a fair few, and would say the condition is VG+ to Ex. A few pops'n'crackles, but not that many - no sign of tracking distortion - I'd expect a decent RCM to give very good results.

Soz, Jerry, nothing flew out at me this time.

I like the vintage 60s - early 70s all-analogue stereo recordings, on the likes of Decca, Columbia, HMV, etc, and of course anything with Shossy on it, so gizza shout if you manage to purloin any of that kind of stuff :)
