Is it?? Why?? or perhaps a better question would be how?

What's wrong with the LP, DSJR?

The LP's noisy, less clarity and dynamic range, treble detail a bit smothered - you know, the usual things... ;)

Get a listen to the 24 carat gold plated CD/remaster that was done fifteen years or so ago if you don't believe me. It's better than the original CD issue (mines in a JMJ box set) for a similar, but not as vast comparison.

So there :ner:

Well, with a good turntable set up, it should sound good.

Genuine interest, genuine question, genuine answer - so now I know, am a little better informed and will look out for the CD - geniune thanks, so there :ner: .
FWIW my CD was acquired in Singapore 30 years ago when you had to look very hard to find a genuine (non-pirate) copy, and shell out much more for it.
This CD has been played regularly in the past 30 years and it's showing no signs of wear yet  .
Cheers,
Dave.

I own 4 vinyl copies..one signed but wont sell them. It should be easy to pick up as it sold in bucketloads back in th day. This album is my all time fave Electronic album...timeless IMO with good tunes nice atmospheric parts and simply wonderful production..good luck in finding a copy shouldn't be hard.

There are also quite a few LP copies on eBay (which is what I would rather have).

Whoa!!...didn't expect it to be that price, i thought it was a HDCD or one of those Sony Q sound jobbies, think i'll just stick to my vinyl.

Thanks for that YNWan.

I've got a copy which I've hardly ever played. I'll run it through tomorrow just to check it. Condition appears visually excellent or better.
Pm if interested.:)

Is that going to make it sound any better?

Given the really enthusiastic reviews on Amazon I wonder why no body has released a SACD or other HiRes version at an affordable price - NOT the gold version ;) .

Here (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OXYGENE-JEAN-MICHEL-JARRE-/330628315548?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4cfafbb99c), if you're quick.

Or this twofer (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jean-Michel-Jarre-Oxygene-Equinoxe-Double-LP-LP-/120797316953?pt=UK_Records&hash=item1c2014c759) which is the version I'm listening to just now. Sounds great, very quiet vinyl, no rolled off treble, in fact the complete opposite to how DSJR describes it.

Might do. The gold discs last a lot longer and requires less error correction from the CD player. Something to do with the aluminium discs oxidizing after a while, whilst the gold discs don't.

The gold disc was a re-mastering done and at the time sounded clearer than the ordinary older CD. The vinyl is "sweeter" if that's your bag. For some reason, a CD-R made from this disc in real-time on a Denon CD recorder didn't sound quite as "good" and was more like the standard CD for some reason.....

I think JMJ used either different, or the original masters for some of his early re-releases. the original vinyl cuts were definitely not as "wide" or "deep" in perspective I thought. I'd never use vinyl for the sake of it if a better mastering on CD was available :) but then I'm spoilt by my CD player (mind you, the twin supplied Digit ain't no slouch either, much to my tremendous surprise  )

DSJR,

Care to post a pic of your ''Gold'' Oxygene Album :)

DSJR

It wasn't mine, but was a Dem disc at Listen Inn. the owner had a habit of bringing in discs for "dem," leaving them with us to get used to them and then whisking them away for his own personal use.

Thinking about it, maybe it was "Bridge Over troubled Water" that was the gold one. The JMJ was definitely a remaster though..

...Strange how I remember some things from nearly forty years ago vividly, yet can't remember what I did last week, let alone ten years back :( Apologies if I misled you :mental:

It seems I haven't got a copy anymore, sold to DaveK at a knockdown price. Time for my fav icon.....
