Come the new year I will do a redesign of the Art of Sound banner and this time it has been suggested to use images of equipment belonging to our lovely members rather than the stock images as in the current one. In order that I can do this though I need lots of images of your hi-fi gear sent over to me. So, please submit your images to me at rob@theartofsound.net and I will merge the best ones into the banner. Please ensure the photographs are as good as possible as blurred underexposed shots never look great! Obviously I will do a few 'takes' and the best one will be selected and implemented. :)

Please understand that by submitting your images to me you give up the right of ownership, and I reserve the right to edit or alter the images as required.

Cheers!

I think one of Anthony's creations should definitely be featured - in fact I would suggest that as many of our trade members' as possible who contribute regularly to the forum should have their products featured in the banner :)

How many 'bits' can we get in without it appearing too crowded?

I suggest the Copper amp belonging to Marco and my pre for starters.

Marco

Yup, and Stan's DAC is another definite I would suggest.

Quite a few, I can create a collage with relative ease. The current one is quite a stark design but I can fill it up. We'll see how many images I get first and then I'll run a few designs off and maybe we can poll the best ones. :)

I think we need some shots of gear belonging to 'civilian' members too rather than just 'trade'. Maybe a bit of DIY?.... (not mine though ;)).

I can do some close-ups of my reel machines / Nakamichi deck - the Nagra's got some nice details. And if folks think any of the pics currently in the Gallery could be cropped nicely how's about they post a link here, to save anyone having to go through them separately.

Were you thinking about something a bit like this, but smaller:
http://www.oaktreeent.com/web_photos/Stereo_Reel_Decks/Pioneer_RT-707_R2R_collage.jpg

Which is a beautiful thing put together by the folks over at Oak Tree Enterprises, so credit to them. Would be reasonably easy to put something like that together from various different combinations.

I think a few good choices would include Marco 1210 The Beresford, maybe a nice valve amp an apple computer, Beachwoods Nagra's and reel to reel and maybe Greg 401. Also some nice speakers but no idea what

A nude DL103 is also an idea. Basically, the banner should reflect cutting edge ideas in its various forms.

Good point Stan, excellent ideas - keep them coming!

You misunderstand me, Mike. What I meant was 'civilian' owned equipment represented by the individual designs of our trade member/designers, i.e. Anthony's valve amps, Stan's DAC, Jim's speaker baffles, Guy's P10 phono stage, etc :)

And yes, D.I.Y should also be represented in that. Who do we know with the nicest looking, most 'cutting edge' D.I.Y design - maybe Nick's 211?

Great ideas so far, guys - keep 'em coming!

Marco.

Yep, like it.

Yep, WD stuff would be good - maybe Greg's 300B? :)

I think Nick's or Guy's slate-plinth SP10 would be good to represent as a turntable. My KAB 1210 is an option, but it looks a bit too 'standard'.

Marco.

Yep, WD stuff would be good - maybe Greg's 300B? :)

Not really... That was a product of the old WAD company.

Something from the current WD catalogue would be better.

Marco

True - I just really liked it.

We could pluck something from the WD site :)

I'd ask first though... copyright and all that....

Shouldn't be a problem if it's somthing built by one of the AoS members...

Marco

That's the type of stuff I was thinking of including :)

What's your business? If it's hi-fi or music related, and we like your product(s), it's in :)

Otherwise, no.

Goodness me. Grand Wazoo, have you looked at the Links Box lately, or perhaps the Trade Inspirations section? Both are free advertising areas for related industries, be it publications, retailers, manufacturers or a combination of the aforementioned. Why is it so wrong to want to promote hi-fi related businesses on a forum dedicated to hi-fi, hi-fi lovers and conversation surrounding such?

Well they would have to submit an image to me which would give me use if the image if they follow the waiver in the first post. Most wouldn't mind anyway as it gets their product at the top of every single page. :)

Hmmm, a chopping board sandwich with knobs on is not my idea of what should be used.

Thanks guys for the compliments on my kit. I agree with Mike that inclusions should be current production although to include a DIY element, the image might need to be a bit retro. I'll forward to Rob some pics of my Slatedeck 401. I won't be offended if you decide not to use them.

Best wishes,

Greg

I think the banner should represent the broad spectrum of this forum ranging from high end commercial offerings through bespoke and professionally modified equipment to self-assemble kits and full-blown DIY.

So this could include any of the distinctive high-end branded items, Anthony TD's AOS, Soul and Copper amps, Glen Croft's preamps, the more recent WD stuff and the home brew kit we saw at Chesterfest/Owston.

There's nothing wrong with my first DIY recasing attempt. When I learnt to tie my shoelaces I didn't laugh at those yet to learn.

Greg,

Rob is rather fond of his 'bread bin' - it was his first 'D.I.Y baby' ;)

So be gentle with him!

OK, I will be but obviously I was confused because the pic was posted by markf. Is that also Rob or another member?

It won't make me change my opinion though. I hope it sounds better than it looks :) Please Rob, no offence intended. It's a matter of personal taste.

Greg,

Mark is Mark - he just found the picture of Rob's D.I.Y preamp and posted it.

I just couldn't resist the temptation to post the picture of Robs pre-amp, at first I didn't
realise it was his,I just looked for the DIY thread where I remembered seeing it.
You know it really did make a lasting impression, then of course I saw that it was Filterlab's
so of course it had to get nominated for the banner (Rob would be too modest to nominate it himself)
I think it may have the honor of being the first AOS passive pre-amp.

Greg,
on a cautionary note :- young children ,chalk and slate plinth turntables, enough said I think

Don't worry, it won't be going on the banner. My point was that on this forum we do not mock anyone's work (however pathetic :)) in the same way as we do not mock anyone's system, it's a courtesy thing.

More pictures please! So far only one member has emailed me.

Chaps, so far I only have six images, three of which are the same thing. Please submit your images by the end of this week if you'd like them incorporated somehow. It takes a few weeks to come up with multiple designs and finalise one to the majority's liking so I will be starting very soon as there's only 8 weeks until the new year.

Email them to me or post them here. Cheers!
