I am thinking that the Tannoy Super Red Monitor SRM 12 speakers are not in the legendary sought after series - they seem to have the tulip waveguide, rather than the pepperpots of proper Monitors. Can anyone shed any wisdom on these things? Are they worth a look?

The crossovers will need urgent attention I think, and possibly the cabinets too. I think Tannoy went for a screaming balance with these (and certainly with the LRM too, which hurt when I heard them). The one HiFi Choice issue which reviewed them commented on the high sound levels available, but disliked the colourations and tonal balance on these, which seems worse than the equivalent Cheviots IIRC

Having said the above, a new modern-thinking crossover and wiring and some attention to the boxes may just transform them. Certainly, the treble and slope should be set to -1, which I believe to be the "flat" setting as wired "straight through." Lockwodds may have the answers you seek though :)
