The ARC ref5 pre is breaking in slowly :)
When I was using the Karan I had the max output voltage on the cdp reduced to 1 volt which the pre was happier with compared to the alternative 3.5 volt and I could use more of the volume control and the sound was better balanced.
With the ARC my normal listening level is about 65-75 (103max) on the volume readout. Is this ok or should I have the cdp reset to 3.5volt. My gut instinct is to leave it alone but does it matter to open up the volume control this much or even up to 80 on quieter music?

Is that 3.5V RMS, peak, or peak-to-peak?

3.5 Vrms at 0dBFS whatever that means

The 'official' CD level output is 2Vrms max. Anything above that would or could overload the CD input stage of your amplifier during loud musical passages.
