I've been looking for a 45 SET amp for a while now. I've sent emails to a couple of companies but no replies.
I was wondering if there are any smaller manufacturers out there that make a 45 amp so I can make use of these beauties.

Ask Nick to build you one.
Or build yourself one, 45's are nice easy first time valves. They are easy to drive, 300v on the anode. Work well driven by a pentode like a d3a, or the 717A that Yamamoto use to drive 45's

If there were a kit available I would give it a go. Although I no longer have a scope but I could borrow one. If you mean build from scratch, the chassis might be a problem and I'd rather work to a proven design.
Hammond have some nice wood surround ones that are big enough for a 45 or 2a3.

Thanks for that suggestion. I looked at the Hammond website, they seem to do a lot of good parts but it looks like it still involves cutting holes etc.
I think I'll continue my search for either a complete amp or a full kit as I don't have enough time to devote to building one up from scratch. If I find a kit I'll probably have it professionally built up.

I'm sure Nick would build it for you if you ask nicely and cross his palm with silver!

Aye, the Bottlehead stuff is pretty good by all accounts. Can't recall hearing any myself though.
I am more than happy enough to build you one, no problem, but I dont want to come over as always selling stuff, so I suggested you might want to have a go yourself.
The Bottlehead stuff is very nice BTW.

hi,
If you dont feel you have the time to commit to taking on a project like this, or you find it a bit daunting, then i sugest Nick [lurcher] a design like this would be a walk in the park for him.:)

The Bottlehead looks perfect. I've registered and just need to clarify postage to the UK before buying. I assume I'll need a step down transformer but 110v is no problem.
If I had more time I would contemplate building it but it's a very busy time for me right now closing out a major project, moving onto the next (bigger) one plus my own smaller project at home. I get home knackered and the misses wants me to help restore the original victorian venetian blinds for the house. There's over 600 slats that need refinishing!
