Hi Guys,

I currently have my Sky HD (New smaller type) box connected to my AV amp via a 3m Monstercable optical cable. I would like to upgrade this, but Mark Grant doesn't have optical cables that long.

My question is, do you think it would be a good upgrade if I used a 3m Mark Grank G1000HD digital coax?

Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Regards,

Darren

As far as I am aware the Sky HD box does not support coaxial S/PDIF connections.

I use a 5m Nikkai optical connection (from Maplins) from a Sky+ box to DAC, and it works fine.
Can't comment on whether or not proper glass fibre is better or not, as I haven't tried it.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. I have just double checked, and my Sky HD box has both optical and coaxial digital outputs next to each other.

That's a new feature, then. My box only has optical. For longer runs co-ax is better anyway so go for it!

I was under the impression that it was the other way round, COAX for short, optical for long...

N.B. I've been wrong many times before ;)

P.S. I've got the 500Gb HD box and it has both :)

No, optical exhibits nasty group delay (jitter) at quite short lengths, co-ax can work at 100ft (I've seen a demo of this) and still work.

Well there goes that theory :)
