Although not an owner of a Technics 1200 or 1210, I've been finding the associated posts quite interesting.
Unless I've overlooked them, I haven't found any posts regarding new plinths for these decks. I've heard what a difference a good plinth can make to an SP-10 so I'm wondering why there's no mods in this area, or is it that improvements elsewhere need to be undertaken to other parts of the deck first?

Ive seen plinths in the US but not in the uk
I think the issue is that the SP10 is a separate "motor unit" in its own right, which can readily be dropped into a plinth whereas the 1200/10 is very much an integrated unit - a separate plinth requiring a lot more effort to accommodate the pcb boards, switches etc.

Fair point, I didn't think about the electronics.
The plinth is already a strong point: a sandwich of a top deck, a composite material middle structure and a rubber base. It does a good job of deadening the turntable and would be difficult and expensive to replace.

As explained previously, the SP10 is, just like the Garrard 301 and 401, a motor unit that needs a separate plinth. The 1200/1210 are integrated decks and have very, very good plinths that leave precious little to be desired; some have upgraded them with better feet and that's pretty much it. The 1200/1210's plinth is already a lot better than many of the traditional wooden box plinths that need a good lot of bitumen inside them before the rumble is tamed.
I think the great challenge would be to have all the benefits of this plinth and to be able to fit a 12'' arm.
12'' look so much sexier - my missus agrees ;)

Would it not be possible to have a sort of surround plinth which you could just put the whole turntable in, and with the provision for a 12in. arm?

...or an outrigger island bolted to the side of the plinth? However, you do it, it's going to look strange.
